Welcome to the home of GeekDinners, we’re glad you could make it! GeekDinner.co.uk is traditionally the home of the London Geek Dinners, but in time more events have found their home here. Here is a little FAQ.
What Is The Next Event?
All the upcoming events can be found both on the blog and on the events page. You can also sign up to be automatically invited to any of our future events.
Who Are We?
GeekDinners.co.uk and it’s events are run by volunteers. Some of these have a job, others are students, but all do it because they like doing it. We don’t get paid for organizing events and we don’t make any profits. At the moment our unofficial crew exists of:
- Cristiano Betta - Generaly organizes the Geek Dinners
- Melinda Seckington - Organizes the Girl Geek Coffee and the Geek Meets, and often helps out at the Geek Dinners
- Ian Forrester - Formerly organized the Geek Dinners and is now our eternal advisor
- Hanieh Haghani - Our Facebook addict that operates the Facebook group
- Simon, Tom, Sheila, Glyn and many more - It takes quite a few people to organize Geek Dinners so quite often regulars help along.
What is a Geek Dinner?
GeekDinners are semi-regular social evening meetups, for geeks and geek-friends. Eventhough the name says dinner, the event rarely is an actual “sit around the table” dinner, but instead the events often include either an open buffet or a buy-your-own-food-policy. The dinners are highlighted by (often famous) guests who will entertain us with an interesting talk.
Usually Geek Dinners request people to signup, which doesn’t cost a thing. Signup is used when we have limited space or generally to have a guess of how many people will be attending. In the case of an open buffet we often ask for a certain amount of £ if you want to eat along, which can be payed during the event (no need to pay ahead).
What is a Girl Geek Coffee?
We at the Geek Dinners love to attend other geeky events and there has always been quite a bit of overlap between the Girl Geek Dinners and the Geek Dinner attendees. So, Melinda Seckington and Emma Persky decided it was time for a new kind of girl geek event: Girl Geek Coffee.
The idea is a simple 2-weekly meetup for geek girls in London. Often the event takes place in a central but quiet coffee place, where the attendees can simply hangout and chat about everything geeky. No signup is required so feel free to show up late or unexpected.
What is a Geek Meet?
If you are a geek, London is a good place to be for “free beer” parties and interesting business opportunities, but sometimes geeks want to just meet up, relax, and hang out just for the sake of hanging out. So, we decided to start organizing Geek Meets.
Geek Meets are quite irregular, and not just the dates. Some Geek Meets are thematic (like meeting up in a museum) but others are just there for the sake of hanging out. No signup is required, but be sure to arrive in time as sometimes the Geek Meet includes a walk or tour.
